Sprinkles of joy
Like many of you, the amount of baking that has been taking place in my house over the last year has definitely increased. For the extra special occasions it is nice to add something extra special. Enter sprinkles!
I’m sure when I was a child I was super into sprinkles, but over the years my baking has turned more toward getting something really yummy into the mouths of the people I love (and mine, of course!) and not worrying so much about how everything looks. So sprinkles went by the wayside. But now that my daughter is getting older, she wants to help with the decorating of the baked goods which means…SPRINKLES! When it comes to sprinkles she does not discriminate. She wants all the sprinkles on every square inch of cookie/cupcake/everything. I, on the other hand, am a bit more thoughtful and use sprinkles sparingly.
Recently I was making some cupcakes for St. Patrick’s Day, and I needed green and gold sprinkles. I hit up the grocery store and discovered I was probably three weeks late to the St. Patrick’s game. I’m guessing they had all their decor out on February 15th, and it was March 10th. I figured as a last resort I could use the green jimmies they keep in the cake decorating section, but I was really hoping to find something fun and special. I searched Amazon, but was only finding huge amounts of okay looking sprinkles. I only wanted a normal amount of cute sprinkles. Then I was scrolling through Pinterest, and because the internet knows all, sprinkle ads kept popping up. Normally I really don’t like that, but as I was in the market for sprinkles I thought I’d check it out. And the most amazing thing happened! I found Sprinkle Pop! They have seasonal sprinkle blends, edible toppers, and cupcake kits. You can even create your own custom sprinkle mix if you are looking for something different.
I decided to say yes to the mess, and I purchased some really cute St. Patrick’s Day sprinkles that were green and gold and had rainbows in them. I liked them so much that I decided to get some Easter sprinkles too! And since I was there and figured I would probably be making cupcakes or cookies or something else soon, I got some girly sprinkles that Isla and I can use together sometime. I also opted to get some mystery sprinkles which ended up being Hanukkah… I’m planning on turning those into 4th of July sprinkles.
So, the moral of the story is: If you want to buy seasonal sprinkles from the grocery store, do it early. If you want something extra special, go to Sprinkle Pop. Shipping is even free and quick! I’m officially obsessed. (You’re welcome, Sprinkle Pop, for the free advertising! Lol.)
